Dragon Age: Alistair Chapter One
"You must be Alistair," says a female voice from behind me, tinged with amusement. I just delivered the Reverend Mother's message to the mage in the way most likely to entertain myself. It seems someone else shares my sense of humor. I turn around to share the joke with whoever it is and immediately lose all ability to speak. Or think. Or, for a moment there, breathe. Maker's breath, she's stunning! She has long brown hair, grey-blue eyes, and curves to die for(since I left the Chantry I've discovered I like curves quite a bit). She's not very tall, she only comes up to my chin, and her skin is just a touch darker than mine. I'm in heaven.

DAO: Alistair's Proposal
I roll over and study the woman sleeping next to me, smiling as I brush a strand of hair off her cheek. Maker, I love this woman. Tonight marks a turning point in our relationship. For the first time ever, we're sharing a bed. I mean an actual bed, not a tent in the forest. It makes us almost respectable, I think.
We're in Denerim, spending the night at Arl Eamon's estate instead of making camp outside the city. I must say, the quarters we've been given this time are a huge improvement over the kennels where I stayed as a boy. I'm not sure if the upgrade is due to me sharing them with Teyrn Cousland's only daughter or the fact that I

Let me start by saying I have no idea where this came from.
No, really. I haven’t even finished playing Dragon Age II yet... not from lack of interest or inclination—although Myranda’s been rather stingy with my Dragon Age time of late—but from serious lack of time. And, again, there’s also Myranda (check out chapter one of her story, Shifting Paradigms, here--> [link]).
But when I was driving home from Thanksgiving vacation, this little one-shot ficlet came to mind. (Ficlet... ha! This is straight-up PWP... only it’s got a dash of plot just to tie it in to the game’s storyline.)
This is not a peek of things to come in the extension of Shifting Paradigms... Dragon Age II is not my story. There will be a crossover—how could there not? Alistair shows up in DAII... unless you kill him, of course—but Mariann (pronounced Mare-ee-AHN, which is more Orlesian than Fereldan, but I don’t care) is not the Hawke in that story. Myranda actually meets Hawke, but I’m not going to ruin that surprise.
Anyway, for some reason this came to mind... because for some reason I was thinking of the incredibly hot Anders ‘I’ve held back for three years’ kiss and of how Fenris leaves you after sleeping with you—which is a blow to any girl’s confidence level, even if he does pull the ‘it’s not you, it’s me’ thing. (“It was fine.” Fine?!?) And I was also thinking about how, though I really want to romance Fenris, it’s incredibly hard not to flirt with Anders. He’s so easy to romance... he’s rather like Alistair that way. (Dear, sweet darlings.... ) So I thought that, if Fenris left Mariann, who would be the first person she’d run to but her dear friend Anders?
Dearest Anders... who also happens to be in love with her.
Anders... who, when things start to slip out of control as he consoles her, lets them.
Just for tonight.

Oh, my girl! Ficlet, ehm... You woke up so much emotions in me with this one (isn`t that a dream of every writer?).
At first it was: Poor Anders, a shoulder to cry on, you have to get the news from first hands (as much as I don`t like him, I always feel sorry for everyone hopelessly in love).
Then: No, this isn`t happening, this isn`t happening! Women do not do such things!
After: Oh no, I know, Maker knows, that I KNOW, that`s exactly what they DO!
And at the end: Of course, I knew it. I would consider her a cold-hearted bitch, if not that last sentence.
At start I was not sure, do I believe Anders doing this. Finally, I believed, just because in my head he is rather selfish one, but selfish+unanswered love=take the opportunity, while it hasn`t vanished.
And then, there is one more point. I cannot believe, that no one else noticed. The 'insurance'. I was not quite sure, what level of it did Anders have in mind. Movies and literature often leave physiological details behind the scene, but they still are there. (Here I hope not to put it in some ugly way because of my questionable English, if so, I didn`t mean it) If he just didn`t like the thought, that the woman have just... ehm, been in full contact with another man, it`s ok (you know, he is a doctor, clean environment, prevention of infections, blah blah). BUT if he decided to take care of Mariann`s possible pregnancy... In that case he has deserved to be blown up together with... [game spoiler removed]. This was not his damn business! As a mother, rising her child alone, I have lot of "what-ifs" in my mind on this theme. A child from a man whom you love but never will be with... It`s just too important question to leave it to others to decide.
